Beyond the impact of policies that would harm the LGBT community in general, cuts in funding to programs like the Center’s that support free or low-cost trans-specific healthcare would disproportionately impact a community that already has few options for quality care, particularly since transgender people are more likely to live in poverty and transgender women are much more likely to be HIV-positive.

A policy that protects the right of students to use the school bathroom that corresponds with their gender identity is in jeopardy, and because some government leaders have openly expressed hostility toward transgender people, many are concerned the government may enact policies that prohibit or restrict their ability to legally change their gender.
